The
AFL series uses auto focus techniques originally developed by PENTAX to
automate the troublesome focusing procedure of cameras.
These Auto Levels are the first, in the world, to use this auto
focus technique and represent the only major technology advance since
the first auto level more than 45 years ago.
Pushing the AF button will focus the target in an instant to
dramatically improve the operational efficiency.
Automatic / Manual modes are easily changeable so that the two
modes can be selected freely.
All
models feature a waterproof (JIS class 6) and nitrogen filled objective
lens compartment, which prevents moisture condensation on the lenses.
Telescope:
Erect
image with an analectic optical system. The resulting image is sharp and
has high contrast, a traditional quality of PENTAX optics. Easy
aiming with the optical collimator locates the target quickly and places
it within the auto focus range.
Automatic Compensator:
Precise compensator, with special alloy ribbon, which provides extremely
stable survey results even under unfavorable conditions such as
vibration. The image is stabilized by a strong magnetic field but is not
effected by any surrounding magnetic force.
Horizontal Circle:
All models have a graduated
horizontal circle with graduation marks every degree.
There are also index marks at every 90° for convenient right
angles. The metal circle is
enclosed for protection of the precise graduations.
Auto
Focusing: The
Phase Contrast Method is used which has a long reputation for high
performance and accuracy. Approximately
6000 focus operations are possible with a single battery.
The battery is a commonly available type which is also used in
many auto focus cameras.
Optical
Micrometer: The
SM5 micrometer set (SM1 + PC8) can be used with all AFL models. The
micrometer is available in three different graduations:
Inch (SM5i), foot (SM5f) and metric (SM5m).
Setting
Up: Can
be mounted on flat or domed head tripods and have quick acting leveling
screws for fast and easy setup.
Short
Focus:
A level rod or target can be focused from only 24 inches with all
AFL models. Tight jobs are
no problem at all.
Color:
The
top of the level is bright red for high visibility on the job site.
